Project Activate

Most environmental talks end when the projector switches off. Project Activate is built so the lesson leaves the classroom in a student's hands.

We start with the science: what plastic pollution actually does to a coastline, a river, a food chain. Not a lecture about faraway oceans — the waste students already walk past every day.

Then we hand the problem back to them. Students break into teams and work out solutions for their own school or kampung, because the people who live somewhere usually know what would actually work there. The ideas belong to them, not to us.

The final session turns talk into a product. Students learn to sew shopping bags from used clothes — waste diverted twice over, textile and plastic both. Each finished bag carries an NFC tag linked to the Buzz app, so the bag stays connected to the programme long after we leave.

Project Activate has run at SK Jitra in Kedah, SMK Tenghilan in Tuaran, Sabah, and St Christopher's in Penang — our first work outside the water villages, and the start of a national reach.
